NOURISH LEXINGTON
Nourish Lexington is a community of service industry professionals, restaurants, caterers, farmers, nonprofit leaders, and invested neighbors working together to meet the immediate need for healthy food while investing in the dignity of our meal recipients and in our local food system, which has been in crisis since the pandemic.
Nourish Lexington came together when FoodChain (a local nonprofit organization) joined forces with VisitLEX & Keeneland with generous financial support from the Murry Foundation, back in April of 2020. A fund was established at the Blue Grass Community Foundation to help support this partnership working to both provide free scratch-made meals to anyone who found themselves in need, while also finding ways to financially support and honor the expertise of food professionals in the community with their help in preparing meals. This work has included offering stipends to furloughed restaurant workers to help prepare meals at FoodChain’s kitchen, contracting with over 20 local food businesses to help prepare meals on a weekly basis, purchasing locally-grown ingredients from area farmers, and surveying our community for pockets of need and trusted community entities to help distribute meals. Nourish Lexington functions primarily as a program of FoodChain’s (referenced now as Nourish Lexington, powered by FoodChain) though it has had hundreds of partners, volunteers, and donors to fuel it. Dupree Catering + Events has been privileged to partner with the Nourish Lex program since April of 2020. By injecting revenue into local Lexington food service establishments, the program allows meals to be distributed to food insecure members of our community, all while promoting Food Chain's mission of locally sourcing foods and healthful meal options. Donating today helps keep small business, like Dupree, with prospects for the future, as well as providing nourishment for those that need it most.
